Short Bio of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gerhard K. Kraetzschmar Gerhard Kraetzschmar is a senior research scientist at the Fraunhofer Institute for Autonomous Intelligent Systems (AIS). He also holds an appointment as Professor for Autonomous Systems at the University of Applied Sciences Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, where he teaches in the international Master of Science program in Autonomous Systems. He received diploma and doctoral degrees in Computer Science from the University of Erlangen in 1988 and 1996, respectively. In 1983/84 he studied a year at the California State University at Northridge on a Fulbright grant. His professional experience include positions as research scientist at the Bavarian Research Center for Knowledge-Based Systems (FORWISS) and as senior research scientist and research assistant professor in the Department of Neuroinformatics at the University of Ulm. He took a leadership role in numerous research projects, including a DFG-sponsored Center for Collaborative Research (SFB) and several projects in the area of educational robotics. His research interest include robotics, artificial intelligence, artificial life, and neuroinformatics, with a particular focus on educational robotics, multirobot teams, robot learning, and middleware for autonomous sensorimotor and embedded systems. He founded and led for many years one of the top-rated RoboCup teams, and organized numerous RoboCup events at the national and international level. He represents the RoboCupJunior and Middle-Size Robot League in the Board of Trustees of the RoboCup Federation.
